New Tiered Parking Permit Structure Beginning June 1, 2024

In spring 2024, the LMU Faculty Senate and the Staff Senate, in partnership with senior leadership, approved a revised payment structure for Westchester campus parking that will go into effect on June 1, 2024.

The following FAQ was developed for greater insights into the decision and resulting payment structure. This page will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.

  • This new structure aligns Westchester parking permit rates with the university’s equity principles, driven by Catholic, Jesuit, and Marymount values. The salary tiers also mirror our existing healthcare plan structure that LMU has followed for many years.

  • Under the current system, starting June 1, 2024, Westchester parking permit rates for all faculty and staff would have been $40.95 per pay period. Under the new system, Westchester parking permit rates will reflect the same salary tiers we utilize for university healthcare plans.

Parking rates under the new tiered system will be as follows:

    • Tier 1 (annual income of $0 – $39,999): 50% annual discount, for an annual savings of $491.43. Old Cost per paycheck: $39.76. New cost per paycheck: $20.48.
    • Tier 2 (annual income of $40,000 – 74,999): 25% annual discount, for an annual savings of $245.72. Old cost per paycheck: $39.76. New cost per paycheck: $30.71.
    • Tier 3 (annual income of $75,000 – 104,999): 7% increase, for an additional annual cost of $68.80. Old cost per paycheck: $39.76. New cost per paycheck: $43.82.
    • Tier 4 (annual income of $105,000+): 27% increase, for an additional annual cost of $265.37. Old cost per paycheck: $39.76. New cost per paycheck: $52.01.
  • With support from senior leadership and at the request of the Faculty and Staff Senates, the university formed a working group with faculty and staff representatives to explore tiered parking structures  that better align with LMU’s Catholic, Jesuit, and Marymount values. The final decision is supported by senior leaders.

  • The healthcare tiers were developed by LMU’s healthcare consultant to align with industry best practices and data, and have been revised over time to reflect movement in salaries. The tiers will be studied again by the University Comprehensive  Benefits Committee in FY2025, for any adjustments in FY2026 that result from the Multi-Year Compensation Initiative that will move salaries into the 75th percentile competitive range. Please see the compensation website for more information regarding the initiative.

  • The per day cost to park at the Westchester campus is $15. Parking permits provide significant cost savings over per diem parking rates.

  • Revenue generated from campus parking permits goes directly to fund a series of operational costs and capital projects, including:

    • Payment of debt service incurred in the construction of the Featherston Life Science Building Parking Garage
    • Management of ongoing parking operations
    • Operation of the LMU shuttle between the Westchester and Playa Vista campus
    • Financial assistance to qualified students.
  • To cancel your payroll deduction permit you will need to fill out a Payroll Deduction Parking Permit Cancellation Form. Permits paid through payroll deduction must be cancelled in advance of the pay period’s change deadline for deductions to be stopped. Requests for stoppage of parking deductions must be made in advance.

  • No. These changes impact Westchester faculty and staff parking permits only.
