Summer Benefit Premiums and Coverage for Part-Time Faculty
Part-time faculty covered by group health benefits who are expected to return with a least 6 units in the fall semester and will not be teaching in the summer must remit timely premium payments to maintain insurance coverage. Faculty members have the following options:
- One lump sum payment in the full for the period of June - August by June 1, 2025 OR
- Monthly payments paid at the beginning of each month (June 1, July 1, August 1) OR
- Pay full arrears on the first paycheck in the fall semester
Part-time faculty covered by group health benefits who will be teaching over the summer will continue to have insurance premium deductions taken from their paycheck. However, if your deductions exceed your earnings, you must remit timely premium payments to maintain insurance coverage. Faculty members have the following options:
- One lump sum payment in full for the period of June - August by June 1, 2025 OR
- Monthly payments paid at the beginning of each month (June 1, July 1, August 1) OR
- Pay full arrears on the first paycheck in the fall semester
Part-time faculty covered by group health benefits who will not be teaching over the summer and will not be returning to teach at least 6 units in the fall semester of 2025 must remit timely premium payments to maintain insurance coverage over the summer months should the wish to continue insurance coverage. Faculty members have the following options:
- One lump sum payment in full for the period of June - August by June 1, 2025 OR
- Monthly payments paid at the beginning of each month (June 1, July 1, August 1)
- Drop insurance coverage - faculty members will be eligible for COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act), continuation of health insurance. COBRA information will be mailed/e-mailed within 30 days of the last day of coverage. Coverage will be cancelled effect September 1 OR
- Faculty members have the option to get insurance via Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage

Failure to submit payments on time may lead to benefit coverage cancellation.
Reminder: Part-time faculty who expect a change in personal status - such as marriage, adoption, divorce, or similar - should contact SJ Ozono or Jocelyn Lai promptly to understand how it may affect their insurance benefits.
Email reminders will be sent to part-time faculty outlining the payment amount required. This is information is available in Workday under the Benefits section.
