Temporary Relocation FAQs

Dear LMUCC families,

To help keep everyone informed and supported during our temporary relocation this summer, we have complied the following Frequently Asked Questions.  We hope these responses help clarify what to expect and provide helpful details as we prepare for this temporary transition together as a community.

Below you will find answers to some of the most common questions families have shared with us. Should you have a question that isn't answered here, please contact us.

  • LMUCC will temporarily relocate during summer 2026 while essential improvements are made to our current space.

To help families plan, we have outlined below the key dates below, including our seasonal closure dates, our temporary location timeline, and our return to the renovated LMUCC building. Please review the following schedule, which includes both relocation dates and our standard closure dates (note: no additional closure dates have been added to the calendar).

    • May Closure Dates: Monday, May 18 - Wednesday, May 27

    • First Day in Temporary Location: Wednesday, May 28

    • Last Day in Temporary Location: Friday, Aug. 7

    • Graduation: Friday, Aug. 7

    • August Closure Dates: Monday, Aug. 10 - Friday, 14

    • Return to Renovated LMUCC: Monday, Aug. 17

  • LMUCC will be relocated to a ground accessible floor in the Leavey 6 apartment building. You can read more about the Leavey 6 apartments here.

  • The apartments will be cleared of all furniture and thoughtfully set up with the same materials and furnishings used at LMUCC.

While the temporary space will not look exactly the same as our current classrooms, we will carefully arrange the environments to feel familiar, comfortable and developmentally appropriate for the children.

Our goal is to make the transition as seamless as possible, so that the children continue to experience the same sense of routine, community, and learning that they are used to at LMUCC.

  • There will not be any changes to the lunch and snack program. All menu options will remain the same.

  • Drop-off and pick-up will be in LOT O, located on the northwest side of LMU Drive across from Drollinger Parking Garage (please refer to the campus parking map).

We are adding 15-minute drop-off and pick-up spots to support a smooth experience for our families.

  • We will have security assigned and patrolling the footprint surrounding the Leavey 6 apartments during business hours. There will also be fencing separating the area from the rest of campus.

  • Yes, the children will continue to go on their regular walks and have outside time, just like during a normal school day.

  • Unfortunately, they will not have access to a climbing structure and/or sandbox. However, we are thinking about creative ways we can create similar outdoor experiences for the children, and will share more in the coming weeks.

  • Since the temporary relocation does not add any additional closure days beyond LMUCC’s regularly scheduled closures, tuition will remain the same and will not be prorated. Families will continue to be billed according to the published tuition rates.

  • The primary focus of this work involves important infrastructure improvements, rather than cosmetic upgrades.

Renovations include plumbing updates, drainage improvements, flooring replacement, and building trim repairs.

These updates are intended to address long-term building needs and ensure the space remains safe, functional, and well maintained for the children and staff.

  • We hope this will be possible, and are currently working with our partners in LMU Housing to explore opportunities for families to view the space.

Please note that the Leavey 6 apartments are currently occupied by campus residents, and will need to be vacated, cleaned and "flipped" in time for LMUCC to open in the space.

In the meantime, we will share floor plans of the spaces in the coming weeks.

  • Our teaching teams are thoughtfully weaving the upcoming move into the curriculum in developmentally appropriate ways. In the Early Preschool, Preschool, and Mixed-Age classrooms, teachers have begun introducing the idea of the transition through conversations during circle time and small-group experiences.

Each classroom is approaching the topic in ways that reflect the developmental stage and interests of the children. In some classrooms, teachers are exploring ideas related to construction, buildings, and blueprints, inviting children to think about how spaces are designed and how environments change and evolve. As the transition approaches, we also hope to take short walks around the surrounding area so children can begin to become familiar with the new location and feel a sense of connection to the space.

For our youngest children, these conversations will take place closer to the relocation date, as introducing the transition too far in advance would not be developmentally meaningful. Teachers will support children through the change by maintaining familiar routines, relationships, and materials that help create a strong sense of continuity and belonging.
