Mental Health & Emotional Well-Being
Mental health and emotional wellbeing encompass our emotional, psychological, and social wellness, influencing how we think, feel, and behave. They also play an important role in how we manage stress, build and maintain relationships, and make decisions.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), mental and emotional wellbeing is "the ability to successfully handle life's stresses and adapt to change and difficult times." The resources in this section are designed to support and strengthen your mental and emotional wellbeing, helping you build resilience, enhance your quality of life, and improve your overall health and wellbeing.
LMU provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Health Advocate, offering confidential, no-cost support to faculty, staff, and eligible household members. This service provides personalized guidance and expert resources to help individuals navigate a variety of personal, financial, legal, and work-life challenges.
Health Advocate also offers specialized mental health support for LGBTQ+ and BIPOC individuals, acknowledging the unique cultural, social, and historical factors that can impact wellbeing.

When you are connected to a counselor, a session is defined as either a live session (chat, phone, video) or a week of back-and-forth messages (exceeding 500 words) exchanged with your therapist. Live sessions with your therapist will last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on your individual needs. We encourage you to discuss your preferences with your therapist. Mindfulness helps you learn to stay with difficult feelings without analyzing, suppressing, or encouraging them. When you allow yourself to feel and acknowledge your worries, irritations, painful memories, and other difficult thoughts and emotions, this often helps them dissipate. Learn more.
