William H. Hannon Library
Hannon Library received LEED Gold certification in 2011. This building contains many new, sustainable innovations including, but not limited to architectural designs to encourage solar heat gain as well as an open concept structure to take advantage of the abundant natural lighting provided by sunny Los Angeles.

What Makes it Green?
Solar + Lighting
- The library features vertically mounted exterior louvers designed to optimize natural daylight while minimizing solar heat gain, improving both indoor comfort and energy efficiency.
- A large central skylight, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a circular building layout maximize access to daylight throughout the interior spaces.
Energy Efficiency
- Interior lighting is automated to dim based on available daylight, reducing the need for artificial lighting and conserving energy.
- Motion-sensor lighting controls are installed in study rooms, ensuring lights are only on when spaces are occupied.
Amenities
- Each of the three floors includes drinking fountains, with one offering a convenient bottle-filling station—encouraging reusable bottles and reducing plastic waste.
