EV Chargers

LMU supports a cleaner commute by offering free EV charging to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Currently, the university hosts 17 EV charging stations across campus:

  • 7 stations in the University Hall parking garage

  • 10 stations in the Bruce Featherston Life Sciences Building parking structure

These charging stations play a critical role in reducing campus transportation emissions.
To date, LMU has avoided 798,189 kg of greenhouse gas emissions —
the equivalent of planting 20,466 trees and allowing them to grow for 10 years.

Why Electric Vehicles Matter

Electric vehicles produce zero tailpipe emissions, making them a vital part of LMU’s strategy to reduce its carbon footprint.

In California, where approximately 45% of electricity still comes from fossil fuels, a traditional gas-powered car would need to achieve 134 miles per gallon to match the emissions efficiency of an EV.

By supporting EV adoption and infrastructure, LMU is contributing to both local air quality improvements and California’s broader climate goals.

    Government's Role

    • As a part of the Advanced Clean Cars II regulations (passed in 2022), all new passenger cars, trucks, and SUVs sold in California will be zero-emission vehicles by 2035.
