Community Service

LMU is a service‑oriented campus with a strong commitment to community engagement. This is reflected in approximately 85% of students participating in community service each year, contributing over 46,000 hours annually, while forging connections with local nonprofits and initiatives. The Pam Rector Center for Service & Action (CSA) serves as the central hub for campus-wide service, empowering students, faculty, and staff to build a more just society through direct service, immersion, philanthropy, advocacy, political engagement, and community-based learning. Additionally, LMU’s Greek community, including 20 recognized sorority and fraternity chapters and governing councils (Panhellenic, IFC, Multicultural, and Black Greek), plays an integral role in service and leadership—combining academic focus, philanthropy, cultural development, and social programming to deepen civic impact and foster lifelong networks.
There are many ways to get involved at LMU through service organizations, volunteer opportunities, and so on.
Why is Community Service Important to Sustainability?
Community service is deeply important to sustainability because it brings the principles of environmental, social, and economic stewardship into real-world practice.
